Ever wonder how something as massive as a cruise ship comes together?
Well, wonder no more.Royal Caribbean International is making a video diary as it constructs its latest ship, Icon of the Seas, and this might be the most sustainable cruise ship in the world when it’s all completed. In honor of Earth Month, Royal Caribbean International recently premiered “Making an Icon: Creating Memorable Vacations Responsibly.” The new episode reveals the firsts in environmentally friendly applications and initiatives set to debut with Icon of the Seas, exploring the many large and small features and practices that will make the next big step in the cruise line’s journey to create a clean-energy future.
“We have a responsibility to our planet to continue to evolve and make our ships as sustainable as they possibly can be. For us, it’s not just about going out and delivering the best vacations in the world, we also need to make sure we’re doing that responsibly,” Jason Liberty, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean Group, said in a statement. This will be the cruise line’s first ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel cell technology. It also introduces a first-of-its-kind plant at sea that will convert waste to energy.
