The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation after a Sweet 16 birthday party in Levittown, Pennsylvania, was cut short this past weekend when a passing airplane showered party-goers in human waste.

According to Fox 29 Philadelphia, roughly three dozen people were attending the backyard celebration when they were suddenly forced to seek shelter.

"Out of nowhere, from the sky, comes a bunch of feces, lands on her," said the birthday girl's stepfather, Joe Cambray. "It looked like a hundred birds flew over and went to the bathroom simultaneously."

However, Cambray's sister, Kristie Rogy, noted that the timing could have actually been worse.

"We'd just gotten done with the cake, thank God," said Rogy. "Because within two minutes something fell from the sky. It was brown. It was everywhere. It got on everything...It was gross!"

Here's a shot of the aftermath courtesy of Fox 29 reporter Brad Sattin on Twitter:

Fortunately, Cambray had purchased the canopy just a few hours prior to the party.

The FAA acknowledges that leaks can occur in the sky, but maintains that all waste is to be disposed of on the ground at airports. Nonetheless, the family has filed a complaint with the administration, which is currently looking into the incident.

Rogy used a smartphone app to discover that as many as five airplanes were flying over the party at the moment when the waste began raining down.

This isn't the first time that falling waste had made headlines, though, as past incidents have been reported in places like New York, England and New Zealand.
