New Flight Routes Taking off in 2024

The new year is upon us and that means air travelers can look forward to a plethora of new flight options, both domestic and international.

While the hectic holiday travel season may be winding down, major carriers continue to expand their networks amid surging demand for travel. 

Here are some of the new routes taking flight this year.

Alaska Airlines is looking forward to a slew of new routes in 2024, including daily, year-round flights between Portland, Oregon and Nashville, Tennessee starting on March 14.

Perhaps even more exciting, the carrier will launch service from Anchorage, Alaska to New York City's JFK Airport beginning June 13. Before that, Alaska will connect Anchorage and San Diego with weekly flights beginning May 18.

The Anchorage-New York route will become the longest flight in the carrier's network at a whopping 3,386 miles.

American Airlines is anticipating a busy year at its hub in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. For summer 2024, the carrier will offer more seats departing DFW than ever before in its history with more than 850 daily departures. New destinations launching from DFW will include Albany, New York; Redmond, Oregon; Barcelona, Spain and Tulum, Mexico.

Other notable new destinations available on American this year include Copenhagen, Denmark; Naples, Italy; Nice, France; Tijuana, Mexico; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Governor's Harbour, Bahamas; Pasco, Washington and Hyannis, Massachusetts.

Delta Air Line is expanding service from Austin, Texas this spring, connecting the Texas capital with Nashville, Tennessee; Midland-Odessa, Texas; McAllen, Texas; Cincinnati and Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina with newly added flights starting on April 22.

Delta will also launch service between Dallas/Fort Worth and Seattle beginning July 8.

Frontier Airlines recently announced expanded operations across 10 key markets in spring 2024. Expanded service starting as early as March 7 includes flights between Tampa and Hartford, Connecticut; Cleveland and Montego Bay, Jamaica; Dallas and Jacksonville, Florida and Pittsburgh and Atlanta.

Hawaiian Airlines, which is poised to merge with Alaska Airlines, will launch a new daily nonstop service between Salt Lake City (SLC) and Honolulu (HNL) starting May 15. "We know this new route will excite travelers in both Utah and Hawaii given our tourism and education ties, and shared Pacific Island communities. We are eager to strengthen these relationships when we launch our service next summer," Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram said in a statement.

JetBlue will expand to its fourth destination in Mexico this summer with daily nonstop service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Tulum's Felipe Carrillo Puerto Tulum International Airport (TQO) beginning June 13, 2024.

Additionally, the airline will offer daily seasonal service from JFK and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Ireland's Dublin Airport (DUB) from March 13 through September 30, 2024, and daily seasonal service from JFK to Scotland's Edinburgh Airport (EDI) from May 22 through September 30, 2024.

Southwest Airlines recently extended its schedule to a record 4,526 departures. Starting June 4, the low-cost carrier will launch daily service between Orlando, Florida and Cancun, Mexico; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; Nassau, Bahamas; Providenciales, Turks and Caicos; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and San José, Costa Rica.

Also beginning June 4, Southwest will start daily service between Burbank, California and Kansas City, Missouri; New Orleans; San Antonio and St. Louis.

Daily nonstop service between Colorado Springs, Colorado and Baltimore/Washington will also kick off on June 4.

Ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines will also launch new service to Tulum, Mexico in 2024, debuting nonstop service to Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport from Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, Florida on March 28.

United Airlines will roll out 22 weekly flights to Tulum, Mexico from Newark/New York, Houston and Chicago beginning March 31.

United has also applied to become the first U.S. carrier to fly nonstop service between Houston and Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
