Beautiful Bimini: A Photo Guide to the Tiny Island in the Bahamas

Beautiful Bimini

1/10
Just a hop and a skip (or a seaplane) from southern Florida, Bimini is a pocket-sized island paradise complete with turquoise waters. Proximity to Miami is a mere 50 miles, making it an easy weekend getaway to ultimate relaxation. Tropic Ocean Airways flies out of Miami seaplane base or Fort Lauderdale for a quick thirty-minute flight. A ferry boat runs to the island duo as well, from Port Everglades with Balearia and takes approximately two hours to reach Bimini.

Friendly locals will make you feel more than welcome on this under the radar Bahamian island speck. Whether you fancy a swim, want to try your hand at deep-sea fishing or crave authentic island vibes, Bimini is your nearby destination to check those boxes like the famous visitors, Ernest Hemingway and Martin Luther King Jr. Let these 10 photos guide you through the best way to experience the island...from fresh seafood eats to getting around from beach to beach, this is how to do Bimini.

Island Sleeps

2/10
There is one main resort on North Bimini (where all the action is), making it a fairly straightforward choice for lodging. At Resorts World Bimini, you won't just get a place to stay, you'll get on-site restaurants and bars, a spa, access to the newbeach club (opening this Spring!) and gorgeous views as well.

Tip: book an East facing room on a higher floor and set your alarm for a watercolor sky sunrise.

Rooftop Hangs

3/10
About that pool...sunset drinks with a toe dip, anyone? The rooftop infinity pool with lounge chairs and the adults only 'Monkey Business' bar is a top spot (literally) to hang when you're not exploring the island. Head up for sunset for a spectaculr display of a Caribbean sun-dip. This is often the setting for parties hosted by well-known DJ's; be prepared to jam.

Getting Around

4/10
Rent yourself some wheels (bicycle or golf cart) to explore this tiny island on your own. Bimini Undersea Shop will provide the bikes, and you provide the leg power. They also run multiple tours out on (and under) the sea, including snorkeling shipwreck excursions, wild dolphin encounters, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. Stop for refreshing conch salad and Kalik beers, take in the splendid beaches and pay the famous boat maker Ansil Saunders a visit. He'll be happy to regal you with tales of fishing from his long history of building boats and going out to snag a catch.

Shore Shipwreck

5/10
See this incredible shipwreck up close and personal, right from shore at Radio Beach. The Gallant Lady sits right at the edge of the rocks, at the tip of North Bimini. The ship ended up there after Hurricane Mitch in 1997 caused it to crash into the rocky coastline. The rusty remains make for a cool photo opp, and worth stopping to see.

Unique Museum

6/10
Yes, it is an ode to dolphins. This intricately unique dedication to the graceful dolphin was created by local island resident Ashley Saunders (Ansil's brother!) who is clearly passionate about the artistic structure. He's been working on it for 26 years, constructing everything by hand with found materials. He'll show you around, and it's even possible to stay in the house if arranged in advance.

Craft Center

7/10
Make sure to peruse the local craft market where you'll find tons of hand-crafted goods like straw pouches and bags. The artists are happy to chat and it's a great place to find a souvenir without spending a lot. The market itself is located in Alice Town, with several vendors selling artisan gems.

Not Your Ordinary Pizza

8/10
If you visit Bimini and don't go to Edith's for pizza made on the local Bimini bread, then did you even go to the island? Bimini bread is an island staple, and pizza on this sweet bread elevates the taste that much more. Try the lobster pizza on the deck overlooking azure waters; cue heavenly vibes.

Local Delicacies

9/10
For another true taste of the Bahamas, conch is a must. There are various ways to eat it; fritters, cracked, and in a ceviche-like salad. Try the fresh conch salad with a just-plucked conch from the sea, mixed with veggies and lime for an authentic culinary delight. Several tiny conch shacks along the water provide ample opportunity to sample each establishment's version. Joe's Conch Shack, Stuart's Conch Salad Stand and Ebbie's should be the main food tour trio for conch salad.

Seaside Drinks

10/10
All that touring of the island will make you thirsty, so saddle up to a small bar treasure, perched over the shore, with views galore. (Unintentional rhyming.) Dollar bills signed by guests from all over the world adorn the walls of this watering hole loaded with character, as well as two resident cats to greet you as you place your order. Stop by Ebbie's and you won't be disappointed...or parched, that either.
