Travelers heading to Paris from the United States will now have upgraded meal service options when flying in Air France’s premium cabin.
For the first time ever, the French flag carrier has expanded its menu created by Michelin-starred chefs to the mid-tier cabin class on flights departing the U.S.
Previously, the gourmet in-flight meals were only available on flights from U.S. cities in Air France’s business class or lavish first class La Premiere cabin.
French Chef Frédéric Simonin, who heads the eponymous Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris’s 17th arrondissement, has created the airline’s in-flight dishes for premium class. Simonin worked with airline catering company Servair to design the menu, which focuses on highlighting seasonal ingredients.
Among the dishes U.S. fliers will be treated to are small scallops with tapioca pearl sauce and asparagus pasta, as well as trofie pasta bake with porcini mushrooms and hazelnuts.
“For Air France customers, I have carefully selected products to enhance them with delicacy and precision, offering each passenger a special culinary experience,” Simonin said.
Each passenger in premium class gets a four-course meal consisting of a starter, appetizer, a warm main dish, and a cheese and dessert course. Premium passengers are also offered a welcome glass of Champagne shortly after takeoff.
In addition to the upgraded meal options, fliers in premium also get expanded perks compared to economy class, like more legroom, a seat with deeper recline, a leg and foot rest, a 13.3-inch entertainment screen, noise-reducing headset, and more.
Air France operates 17 U.S. gateways, including: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York-JFK, New York-Newark, Orlando, Phoenix, Raleigh-Durham, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington D.C.
The Paris-based carrier also serves four cities in Canada—Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Ottawa—where the gourmet meals will also be served for the first time in premium class on all departing flights.
