When it comes to commercial airplane manufacturing, there are
really only two significant players.
There's Boeing, and there's Airbus.
Right now, Airbus ended 2023 on a high end, setting multiple
company records.
Airbus, based in France, announced its earnings this week and
saw an 11 percent increase in orders over last year. The company said it had 2,094
net orders after cancellations. Airbus has a backlog of 8,598 planes plane
orders.
Christian
Scherer, who was elevated from the top sales job to become CEO of
commercial aircraft in January, said: "Travel is back, and there is
serious momentum.”
Boeing
said it booked 1,314 net new orders after allowing for cancellations, about
half of Airbus’ output.
Boeing
now finds itself embroiled in controversy over its 737
MAX 9 planes.
