Travelers are facing unexpected flight delays at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF) after a deadly crash involving a UPS aircraft on Tuesday evening.
The Honolulu-bound cargo plane crashed on takeoff shortly after 5 p.m. local time on Tuesday, killing at least nine people and injuring nearly a dozen more.
Officials at SDF announced that runways were operational and TSA screening has since resumed following the incident. However, travelers are encouraged to check their flight status with their airline as impacts are likely to be felt throughout the day.
According to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com, SDF is reporting 16 cancellations and two delays for Wednesday as of 9 a.m. ET.
Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating after the aircraft crashed at roughly 211 mph carrying approximately 38,000 gallons of jet fuel.
At least three UPS crew members were on board when the plane crashed into a recycling plant and an auto parts building.
