Low-cost carrier French Bee flew its inaugural flight from Paris to Papeete, French Polynesia, on May 11, landing in the islands on May 12.

The fledgling carrier began flying one year ago, offering flights from Paris to Reunion Island. Now, travelers can fly between Paris and San Francisco and all the way to Tahiti with French Bee.

"This first commercial flight between Paris, San Francisco and Papeete is a strong symbol for the French airline," said French bee president Marc Rochet.

"Less than a year ago, we launched our first flights between Paris and Reunion Island, where we now have a market share of close to 20 percent. French bee is profitable and also benefits from the support of the Dubreuil group and the strong commitment of its staff. This makes it possible for us to pursue our development goals," Rochet added.

The airline now flies regularly scheduled flights that take off from Paris Orly to San Francisco and then continue to Papeete. U.S. travelers can fly with the low-cost airline from San Francisco International airport on the airline's new A350-900 aircraft.

Flights to Tahiti start at $330 one way. These "basic" fares include a 26-pound carry-on bag and an economy class ticket. Travelers can purchase Comfort Kits, meals, snacks, extra baggage and more to customize their flight to their needs.

Travelers can also book "smart" fares, which include an economy-class seat as well as one carry-on bag, a 50-pound checked bag and a meal.

French Bee's premium class includes seats with 36 inches of pitch, a 19-inch seat width and a footrest. Tickets come with a meal, a carry-on and two checked bags.

Travelers in all classes have free in-flight entertainment, USB and electrical ports, headphone plugs and adjustable headrests.

The brand-new aircraft features the latest technological advances in air travel with cabin pressurization, temperature control and air quality that offer passengers and crews an optimal level of comfort.

"We are convinced that the comfort of our new aircraft, which is equipped with the latest technologies, and our tailor-made travel offer, will appeal to French, American and Polynesian travelers alike," said French Bee sales director Sophie Hocquez.

"French bee offers extremely advantageous fares, with the aim of making distant destinations more accessible. The introductory fare to discover Paris from San Francisco is now $189 one-way. As for the Polynesian Islands, you can reach those in the low season from $330."

Upon arriving in Tahiti, the airline celebrated the inaugural flight with a ceremony and a Polynesian blessing. Guests were invited to tour Tahiti before returning to San Francisco with French Bee.
