JetBlue Airways is actively exploring new partnership opportunities as it seeks to expand its market presence following the shutdown of two major deals by federal judges over the past couple of years.

Speaking at a Barclays industry conference on Wednesday, JetBlue President Marty St. George confirmed that the airline is engaged in discussions with “multiple airlines” about potential collaborations, according to NBC News.

“If we find a deal that’s accretive, we’ll absolutely do it,” St. George stated, emphasizing JetBlue’s eagerness to secure a strategic alliance that would enhance its competitive edge.

The airline’s pursuit of a fresh affiliation comes after a series of recent setbacks. In 2023, a federal judge ruled that JetBlue’s Northeast Alliance with American Airlines violated antitrust laws, effectively dismantling the partnership. Further complicating matters, another judge blocked JetBlue’s 2024 attempt to acquire low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, which has since filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

JetBlue, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, seems determined to find ways to grow, arguing that it needs an advantageous partnership in order to remain competitive in an industry dominated by giants like Delta, American and United.

St. George highlighted the importance of a potential tie-up in bolstering JetBlue’s loyalty program, acknowledging that its frequent flyer perks currently lag behind those of its three largest U.S. competitors.

“Given that we really don’t have full global earn and burn, I think to be able to add that to our network would be very, very helpful,” he explained, referencing the ability for customers to earn and redeem miles on a broader scale.

The carrier has not disclosed which specific airlines it is in talks with or what form a future partnership might take.

JetBlue representatives did not immediately respond to TravelPulse’s request for further comment.
