Low-cost air carrier JetBlue will begin offering a free carry-on bag for travelers flying Blue Basic beginning September 6, 2024.
The change was made to increase the value of JetBlue’s basic economy fares. Basic Blue category seats include some of the most legroom in coach, seatback entertainment at every seat and free, unlimited Fly-Fi.
“Carry-on bags are an important part of travel to customers, and when presented with a choice between JetBlue’s award-winning service and another carrier’s basic offering, we want JetBlue to be the easy winner,” said Marty St. George, president, JetBlue. “We’re always looking for ways to evolve our offering in response to customer preferences. This is a win-win as we improve the customer experience and keep JetBlue competitive in our industry.”
Like many other airlines, if a full plane has no more room in overhead bins for carry-on items, customers may be required to check their carry-on bags at the gate prior to boarding at no extra cost.
For more flexibility, travelers can upgrade from Basic Blue to Blue, which offers advanced seat selection, no cancellation or change fees and general boarding. The Blue fare includes a free carry-on bag, personal item and one checked bag on transatlantic flights.
JetBlue recently made upgrades to many of its inflight experiences, offering new snacks and alcoholic beverages, along with a new inflight experience platform, dubbed Blueprint. Blueprint allows up to six travelers to watch the same TV show or movie at the same time; pick up where you left off from your last flight when making a connection; and content partnerships with its streaming partner, Peacock.
