LATAM Airlines Group said its available seats per kilometer (ASK, or available seats per mile as it is measured by U.S. airlines) grew by 14.9 percent compared to October 2022.
Naturally, it followed a 31.2 percent increase in seats that were made available on international flights. It is the highest ASK level since February 2020. These results were accompanied by a load factor of 87.8 percent in that segment.
Overall, during the first 10 months of 2023, capacity in the international segment increased by 39.8 percent compared to the same period in 2022, in line with a 41.9 percent increase in demand.
The number of passengers transported in October increased by 13.2 percent compared to the same period in 2022, reaching 6.4 million passengers, of which 1.2 million correspond to international operations, with an increase of 38.4 percent compared to October 2022.
Translation? Demand is such that passengers will come if you have a place for them to sit.
Year to date, the total number of passengers transported exceeded 60 million, increasing by 18.1 percent compared to the January-October 2022 period.
During October, passenger traffic measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) increased by 18.1 percent compared to the same month in 2022, highlighting the 32.8 percent increase on international routes.
It certainly didn’t hurt that LATAM recently expanded its partnership with Delta.
