Airlines, especially ones that operate primarily within the Middle East, continue to operate limited flights to destinations around the region as the U.S.-Israel war on Iran continues— and Qatar Airways, the national air carrier of Qatar, has announced a limited flight schedule to and from Doha, its capital.
According to the airline’s announcement on Monday, March 15, Qatar Airways is operating a limited number of flights from March 18 through March 28, with updated flight schedules.
While much of the Qatari airspace is closed due to the threat of recent warfare, the flights are operating “within a limited safe corridor defined by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority…Each flight requires careful planning and remains subject to regulatory approvals and airspace conditions.”
The airline encouraged travelers not to visit their departure airport unless they hold a valid, confirmed ticket. Additionally, the airline is offering selected city-to-city flights without a Doha connection, which cannot be booked on the website.
The flight routes will aid travelers who remain trapped in Qatar and the broader Middle East, enabling them to fly home to destinations like Bangkok, Perth, Cairo, and Mumbai.
According to Al Jazeera, the war between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, which began on February 28, continues to trap thousands of travelers from around the world within the Middle East, despite countries sending emergency evacuation flights.
Other neighboring countries’ main airport hubs are slowly reopening after becoming unwilling targets in Iran’s retributive missile strikes.
