SkyWest Airlines has is feeling the heat from flight attendants and it's not an enviable position given the strength and power of the union in the aviation industry.
SkyWest apparently fired two flight attendants who tried to organize a union, and now the union for flight attendants wants them back.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) sent a demand letter to the airline, which is based in Utah and serves as a regional airline for Delta, Alaska, United and American, demanding the immediate reinstatement of the two terminated crew members.
“SkyWest management must immediately reinstate illegally terminated Flight Attendants Shane Price and Tresa Grange and cease any further retaliation against Union activists,” said AFA in a letter to SkyWest management.
“Both engaged in protected concerted activity in addressing issues with their company-sponsored representative, the SkyWest Inflight Association (SIA). Both were directly fired for it by SkyWest management in violation of the Railway Labor Act.”
The Act is a federal law that governs labor relations in the airline and railroad industries.
SkyWest has a reputation of being anti-union, the group said. SkyWest management could not be reached for comment on Friday.
“If we do not hear from you by Friday, AFA will seek all legal remedies on [the Flight Attendants] behalf and, in doing so, will demonstrate to all the SkyWest Flight Attendants what we all know about the relationship between SIA and SkyWest management: they are one and the same,” the letter says.
