That’s a lot of flight vouchers.
A Southwest Airlines employee is alleged
to have stolen nearly $80,000 in flight vouchers over a two-month period last
year.
Brooklyn Jones has been accused of
stealing the vouchers at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and selling
them for cash.
The incidents apparently happened between
August 1, 2023, and September of that same year and were uncovered through an internal
investigation conducted by Southwest. When confronted, Jones produced more than
100 vouchers in his locker at the airport worth more than $36,000. He later
told police he forged $79,000 worth of vouchers.
Jones said he acted alone and, to his
knowledge, nobody else at the airport was producing fake vouchers. He put the vouchers in the names of
former passengers.
A Southwest Airlines spokesperson
confirmed Jones has been arrested, but offered no additional comment.
He is due to appear in court on September
16.
It’s certainly not
the first time an airline employee has been accused of taking advantage of
their position.
