Those looking to travel to the Warehouse City in the coming year are in luck.

Thomas Cook Airlines, Europe's seventh-largest long-haul airline, has announced that beginning Dec. 14 it will offer year-round, thrice weekly service between Manchester and New York's John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK).

Thomas Cook already offers daily flights between Manchester and JFK in the summer.

This extension makes New York the third year-round U.S. destination for the airline. It already serves Las Vegas and Seattle with flights to Frankfurt under the Condor brand.

"With our new added year-round service, it's never been easier and more affordable for Americans to explore Europe. With 17 gateways in the U.S., four of which just launched this summer, we're making excellent progress with our strategy to grow our long-haul network," said Christoph Debus, Thomas Cook Group's chief airlines officer.

"With three additional flights per week, we are closing the gap from Christmas until mid-March, and we are offering our customers a great opportunity to visit Europe during the winter months. We work closely with partner airlines to connect travelers from more than 30 destinations within the U.S. to many fantastic European cities. This provides travelers with a wide array of winter vacation options from ski trips to the Alps to ringing in the New Year in Paris," he continued.

The new flights will operate on Airbus A330 equipment. Fares will include free checked baggage (up to 50 pounds), as well as meal and in-flight entertainment available on seat-back screens. Passengers will be able to choose from a selection of free and paid-for content, offering more than 30 movies and 50 shows.

Once in Manchester, there are a plethora of things to see and do.

Any trip to Manchester should include a visit to the hallowed grounds of Old Trafford soccer stadium - or football, as the Brits call it. Regardless of whether you love soccer or view it as a distant rival to the "real" football, it's a must-do. Follow up your pilgrimage with a visit to the National Football Museum.

For those who prefer their sports with a side of culture, head over to the Manchester Art Gallery with its collection dating from the pre-Raphaelite days to present.

The museum boasts a variety of tours and hands-on activities that will appeal to adults and children alike. Families with young children (three to six years old) should be sure to try the "Explorer Tool Belts" that include binoculars, spot cards, a magnifying glass and more.

Other spots to visit include a stroll along The Quays, the Museum of Science and Industry (free admission), Manchester Cathedral, family-friendly Heaton Park, Haigh Woodland Hall with a host of adventure activities for kids and adults, as well as Manchester Museum, which is a natural history museum that has been going strong since 1821.

Thomas Cook Group Airlines currently serves the U.S. from Anchorage, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Fairbanks, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Orlando, Portland, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.
