The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) provided advice for Chiefs and Eagles fans heading to New Orleans for the Super Bowl LIX this weekend.
Travelers heading from Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) arrive with extra time, at least two hours before their scheduled flight. Average daily passenger volume is expected to grow from 12,000 to 17,000 leading up to the game at MCI.
The TSA reminds travelers that liquids in carry-on bags should be 3.4 ounces or less and packed in a single quart-sized bag. Solid foods are acceptable to bring along with you in a carry-on, but anything spreadable, spillable or sprayable should be packed in a checked bag (this includes tailgate staples like ketchup and barbeque sauce).
“Planning is critical when traveling on busy weeks like this,” said Angela Brooks, TSA Federal Security Director for Missouri. “Arriving to the airport with extra time and knowing what can and can’t be packed in carry-on and checked bags will save you time and keeps things moving quickly at checkpoints.”
Souvenirs can be checked or carried onboard, except for unopened cans of beer, which are required to be checked.
Check TSA’s “What can I bring?” feature in the MyTSA app, website or ask the TSA on X (formerly Twitter) at @AskTSA.
“We strongly suggest that Eagles fans don their green, pull on their jersey and arrive at the airport with extra time and know what can and can’t be packed in carry-on and checked bags,” said Gerardo Spero, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Pennsylvania and Delaware. “Doing so will save you time and keeps things moving smoothly at our security checkpoints.”
