While United Airlines has clearly bungled several decisions regarding its onboard food and beverage offerings of late, at least it appears the carrier is listening to customers.
After backtracking on a decision to remove tomato juice from its beverage carts based on a review of overall demand, the airline has also announced it will reverse unpopular modifications it made to its premium cabin menu to adjust the portion size and variety of meals offered on flights under four hours during the day.
According to USA Today, the rollback will take effect June 1.
"We want our customers to know that we value and appreciate them and that we're listening," United confirmed in a statement Thursday. "Our customers told us that they were not happy about the menu modifications, so we made the decision to reverse the changes and return our meal service to our previous offerings."
United debuted a handful of new dining and beverage options at the start of the month, including adding egg and chicken chorizo tacos to its Choice Menu. Plus, the airline will become the first to offer Stella Artois aboard domestic and international flights this summer.
Nonetheless, the decision to walk back the unpopular changes could give it a much-needed boost against its competition as both Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have recently announced enhanced food and beverage offerings of their own, including new menu items and award-winning onboard chefs.
As for the tomato juice, United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said passengers can expect it back by the summer, possibly as soon as July.
United also announced Thursday that Gerry Laderman has been named acting chief financial officer, replacing Andrew Levy, who has left the company.
