United Airlines announced Monday that it has officially added the new Boeing 737 MAX 9 to its domestic flight schedules.
Starting on June 7, the MAX 9 aircraft will begin operating between the United hub at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport and five cities. On June 29, the carrier will also add the new plane on routes between Los Angeles and Honolulu.
In total, United will receive 10 new MAX 9 aircraft this year and continue to add service from its hubs to cities throughout the United States.
United's MAX 9 aircraft will feature 179 seats, including 20 United First seats, 48 in Economy Plus with 34 inches of pitch and 111 United Economy seats with at least 30 inches of pitch. In addition, passengers will be treated to in-seat power outlets, United Private Screening personal device entertainment and the option purchase satellite Wi-Fi.
"The addition of the MAX 9 furthers our efforts to become a more efficient and productive airline," United chief financial officer Andrew Levy said in a statement. "It has better fuel efficiency, lower maintenance costs and does all of this while maximizing customer comfort."
In terms of fuel efficiency, the MAX 9 will feature Boeing's Advanced Technology winglets and engines that will provide a quieter ride and the ability to fly farther on less fuel.
