US-based private equity firm Castlelake, L.P. announced it is in the preliminary stages of considering the purchase of British low-budget air carrier, easyJet.
The announcement was made on May 29, in which the private equity firm told the public it has until June 26, 2026 to announce its intention to purchase easyJet. The board of easyJet has not yet been in communication with the firm, but Castlelake promises future updates.
Castlelake has large influence from real estate to the aviation sector, including financing Virgin Atlantic Airways.
easyJet, like Spirit Airlines in the United States, has been feeling the impact of higher jet fuel prices, raising some ticket prices in recent weeks. Its stock prices have remained low, causing its market value to drop, according to British news outlet, Express.
