In 2016, over 21 million people landed at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas. However, I'd place a bet that few-to-none of them noticed a public gym, spa, and sleep spot tucked in near one of the baggage claim carousels in Terminal One.
I asked founder Heather Doane what drove her to launch this unique facility at the Las Vegas Airport, and she responded, "We founded ZEROlevel Fitness and wellness at McCarran to help create a healthier happier workplace and better travel experience. We strive to offer services that are uniquely tailored to our members' wants and needs by conducting regular surveys and getting consistent feedback."
They even have private bedrooms that can be rented for as little as $5.00 per hour, which might make ZEROlevel one of the least expensive ways to rest in Vegas. Hours can be purchased in blocks of up to 20 for $100, or 10 for $60. This is a pretty awesome deal for those who visit Vegas regularly. Otherwise, the rooms are $12 per hour. The hourly rooms also include access to their shower and gym facilities. Gym access alone costs $25 for the day-if you're not using the sleeping room.
ZEROlevel Operations Manager Alexa Hayon told me the facility has been open since February 2014, and opened to the public last May. They don't advertise themselves much yet, but there is a sign upstairs in the terminal that guides passengers to the facility's location. Hayon said many people find ZEROlevel through Google.
She also said, "We offer massage therapy (by appointment), personal training, group fitness classes, Fascial Stretch Therapy & pain relief therapy."

Most of their clientele is made up of airport and airline employees. A facility like this would be a big draw to airline crews who have an overnight stay at the end of a 3-4 day trip. If there is not another flight home that night, the airline doesn't put them up in a hotel. So if they only need a few hours of quiet, inexpensive sleep, and want to avoid the hustle and bustle of The Strip, this is the perfect place.
Will they be expanding to other locations? Doane told me, "We have looked into expanding to other airports. We are also looking into other corporate communities that can benefit from a tailored fitness/wellness center that services the business community and local community in a given area."
Several other airports around the world do have short-term rest facilities known as "Pod Hotels," including London Heathrow, Tokyo Narita, and Abu Dhabi. Here in the United States, a company called Minute Suites has Pod Hotels at ATL, DFW and PHL. The rates at Minute Suites are significantly higher, starting at $42 per hour, and showers cost an extra $30. For that price, if you're sleeping two hours or more, you're better off looking for a hotel property near the airport.
McCarran has attracted quite a bit of new international airline service in the past couple of years, including Hainan Airlines, Edelweiss, and Norwegian Air. Passengers with a layover of a few hours could find ZEROlevel as an appealing option to relax, rest and clean up before connecting to a domestic flight. Terminal 1 airlines include Allegiant, American, Delta, Omni, Spirit, and Southwest, on four different concourses.
