Is United Airlines launching an international premium economy section? An internal United memo leaked by aviation journalist Seth Miller alludes to the upgrade.
Miller posted United's note on his blog:
"Later this year, we'll begin to introduce United's Premium Plus. Available on select international flights, United® Premium Plus will give you more space, comfort and amenities. The seats will be more spacious and you'll enjoy upgraded dining on china dinnerware, free alcoholic beverages, a Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and pillow, an amenity kit and more."
The new premium economy section is rumored to have extended leg room, larger and more spacious seats, upgraded dining with nice cutlery, premium beverages and higher-quality cuisine.
However, after word broke about the internal memo announcing the new product, United remained silent about the details.
The rumored service would be a step in the right direction for the airline. It would put United in line with other U.S. carriers, many of which announced plans for this type of service a couple of years ago. Both American Airlines and Delta Air Lines announced plans for premium economy in 2016, however, both products have yet to be fully integrated into either fleet, according to Forbes.
American has delayed its premium economy rollout until June of this year, however, the upgrade is available on some flights now.
"We will be able to sell premium economy across the entire fleet internationally by that time," said Derek Kerr, American chief financial officer, via FlightGlobal.
Delta's premium economy is also available on some flights. Delta Comfort, as it is called, offers more leg room and roomier seats as well as an amenity kit.
