A three-month-old puppy was abandoned in a bathroom at Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport over the Fourth of July weekend, according to KSNV.
The distressing discovery included a heartbreaking note that revealed why the precious miniature Chihuahua had been left behind.
"Hi! I'm Chewy! My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn't afford me to get on the flight. She didn't want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option," the note read.
"My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head. He probably needs a vet. I love Chewy sooo much-please love and take care of him."
Fortunately, someone reported Chewy and had him placed in the care of a local dog rescue.
"This one really got to me. You could tell by the way the note was written that the woman was in dire stress and she didn't want to give him up and she couldn't take him with her," Connor & Millie's Dog Rescue's Darlene Blair told KSNV.

Airport officials used the incident as a teachable moment for pet owners, reminding them that the airport is among the last places to leave an animal.
Travelers are also encouraged to ask for help whenever necessary.
"I know it's hard when you're in that situation to trust someone but there are good people out there-and if you're in that situation and you need help to take your dog with you try not to be too afraid to ask for help," Blair added.

While airports are no place to leave or find dogs, those in search of a new furry friend should certainly reach out to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for a potential adoption.
