United Airlines' mobile app just keeps getting better.
Days after becoming the first U.S. airline to allow passengers to access boarding passes for partner airlines through its app, the Chicago-based carrier announced a handful of additional enhancements.
The latest version of the United app lets customers change and cancel flights from the app and conveniently store their MileagePlus and United Club cards in the Apple Wallet.
Moving forward, United passengers will be able to make important flight changes directly through the app under reservations details. The airline said support for in-app reservations will be expanded in the weeks to come.
Meanwhile, users can now add their United Club and MileagePlus cards to the Apple Wallet by logging into their MileagePlus account in the app, selecting the United Clubs and/or MileagePlus section and clicking the "Add to Apple Wallet" icon under the digital card.
United Club members will still be able to scan their boarding passes to access the club pre-flight.
Other exciting upgrades rolling out include a "Track my bags" beta that will allow users to access real-time updates on the whereabouts of their luggage, as well as a new feature for Apple 3D touch compatible devices allowing users to instantly navigate from the home screen to the app.
"Every day 800,000 customers rely on our mobile app to book reservations, view flight statuses, check-in and access a variety of other handy travel tools we've made available through our app," said Linda Jojo, United's chief digital officer, in a statement. "We're constantly making updates to the app that help our customers manage their travel with us at the touch of a finger and access even more information about their flights as quickly and conveniently as possible."
The latest additions to the United mobile app come amid ongoing changes to the MileagePlus frequent-flyer program, including the replacement of Standard Awards with Everyday Awards.
According to United, the app is used more than 500 million times per year.
In September, the airline became the first U.S. carrier to offer travelers an Amazon Alexa skill, which allows users to check their flight status, review in-flight amenities and check-in hands-free.
