On Tuesday, Avis Car Rental announced that it is expanding its mobile app's innovative offerings to the Australian market.
Car rental customers in Australia will now be able to use their smartphones to experience complete and unprecedented control over their experience when renting a vehicle through the Avis Car Rental brand.
The Avis app is compatible with the company's entire fleet of vehicles, and customers enrolled in Avis Preferred-the express rental and loyalty program-will be able to able to use their smartphones to save time and ensure a seamless rental process.
The Avis mobile app allows customers to book rentals, exchange or upgrade a vehicle, save time by bypassing the counter, extend rentals, return a vehicle without assistance or even view an itemized receipt, all through their phone.
"Since the successful U.S. launch in July 2016, more than 400,000 travelers have enrolled and nearly 300,000 rental transactions have been made using the Avis mobile app," Avis Budget Group CEO Larry De Shon said in a statement.
"Our goal was to take customer feedback and create a unique service that simplified the rental process while addressing common pain points vocalized across the industry. With downloads continuing to climb and nearly 45 percent of app-enabled rental transactions coming from repeat customers, we are excited to build on the program with this roll-out in Australia."

The Avis app is now available to be used at four airport locations in Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide
As for customers in the United States, the Avis mobile app works with approximately 40,000 connected vehicles in the rental car company's fleet at more than 60 locations. The app also allows customers to lock and unlock their doors, as well as flash the vehicle's headlights.
