Solo travel is an incredibly fast-growing travel segment. As more and more travelers choose not to wait for companions before taking their most desired trips, that's also shifting perceptions of travel by travel brand.
Railbookers, the rail travel expert, has seen a double-digit increase in the number of solo travelers seeking the operator's help to plan personalized solo rail journeys.
The rail journey operator is unlike a traditional tour operator in that everything is personalized precisely towards the traveler, with no groups and no experiences the traveler doesn't desire. Travelers pick which destinations they'd enjoy visiting, choose which category of hotels they'd like to stay at, and even what experiences they'd want to have in each of their destinations.
Railbookers then handles the logistics, from booking train tickets and hotel nights to transfers and experiences, leaving a traveler to simply show up and enjoy the ride—literally.

"We encourage travelers to really lean into the fact that Railbookers has handled the logistics for you, so travelers don't need to over plan every moment," said Dan Reisig, Communications Manager at Railbookers. "Instead, they can give themselves the freedom to be spontaneous along the way. That's among the biggest perks of solo travel – being able to travel at your own pace, without having to answer to other travel companions."
Solo travelers who might be worried about planning a multi-stop vacation in Europe, for example, might enjoy a Railbookers trip precisely for its flexibility and support. If something does go wrong, like a rail strike impacting a trip, the brand's 24/7 global support team is there to assist at any stage of the trip.
One major consideration for solo travelers considering booking a travel experience through an operator is whether they're required to pay a solo or single supplement fee.
While Railbookers' experiences are based on double occupancy, the brand can instantly quote solo travel or find hotels that offer single rooms to save on accommodation costs. As the trips are fully customizable, they're also flexible enough to work with a variety of budgets.
As for Reisig, he recommends solo travelers consider visiting Switzerland: "A destination that really stands out for us is Switzerland. It's a bucket-list country, but can feel a bit complicated due to its multi-stop itineraries and extensive rail network. What we do is simplify the whole experience by seamlessly connecting travelers across iconic routes like the Glacier Express and Bernina Express, while pairing those journeys with great hotels and personalized experiences in places like Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken and Zermatt."
