Carnival Cruise Line revealed Friday the first design details of the upcoming Mardi Gras ship set to debut in 2020.
When the Mardi Gras launches next year, it will become the first cruise ship in North America powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and boast 20 decks highlighted by six themed zones.
The six zones of Mardi Gras' design were designed to immerse passengers in a social and community-driven atmosphere. Each portion of the ship will have different themes, including Grand Central, French Quarter, La Piazza, Summer Landing, Lido and The Ultimate Playground.
"When our guests Choose Fun and book a vacation on Mardi Gras, they are going to find many firsts and exciting experiences, all enhanced by the fun atmosphere our great Carnival crew deliver on every cruise," Carnival president Christine Duffy said in a statement. "We've specifically designed Mardi Gras to invite everyone to create their own personalized fun vacation experience with options to suit every age, mood or taste."
Some of the highlights of the six themed areas include the Punchliner Comedy Club, the Piano Bar 88, a traditional New Orleans jazz club, a 24/7 Pizzeria del Capitano, Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse Brewhouse, a WaterWorks aqua park and the much-anticipated BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster.
The first rollercoaster at sea will send passengers along an 800-foot-long track achieving speeds of nearly 40 miles per hour.
Guests on the ship will be able to choose from more than 20 different stateroom categories and multiple levels of suites, with reservations for Mardi Gras itineraries open for sale January 30.
