Carnival Cruise Line has announced plans for a $200 million makeover for Carnival Triumph in the spring of 2019. The transformed ship will be renamed Carnival Sunrise. She’ll join the line’s Sunshine class of ships.
The ship’s two-month drydock will take place in Cadiz, Spain, beginning on March 1, 2019. The process will add the line’s most popular food, beverage and entertainment options. It will also update staterooms.
After a renaming ceremony, Carnival Sunrise will re-enter service on April 29, 2019. She’ll start out with a series of five- to seven-day voyages from Norfolk, VA. She’ll then operate a summer schedule of four- to 14-day cruises from New York as of May 23, 2019. In October of 2019, Carnival Sunrise reposition to Fort Lauderdale.
“The introduction of Carnival Sunrise will provide our guests with an array of exciting dining, bar and entertainment choices. The new Carnival Sunrise is part of our multi-billion-dollar ship enhancement program that is transforming our fleet on an unprecedented scale,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
New enhancements to Carnival Sunrise include the redesign of two Captain’s Suites next to the navigational bridge. The suites will feature floor-to-ceiling windows and extended balconies. All staterooms will be updated with new Caribbean-inspired colors.
New food and beverage options include Cucina del Capitano, serving Italian classics in a family-style format. JavaBlue Café will offer coffee house beverages, “spiked” coffees and pastries.
Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse will serve American steakhouse fare. And, Bonsai Express will offer sushi, sashimi and other delicacies in a casual atmosphere.
The Chef’s Table is a new multi-course dining experience served in a glass-enclosed venue in the forward dining room. While Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse is an open-air eatery featuring BBQ favorites by Food Network star Guy Fieri.
Bar and lounge options aboard Carnival Sunrise will include RedFrog Pub, Piano Bar 88, Limelight Lounge (home to the Punchliner Comedy Club) and the new Multi-Purpose Liquid Lounge.
Entertainment venues will include SportSquare, an open-air recreation complex. It features a suspended ropes course with views of the sea; basketball, miniature golf and more. The WaterWorks are will include a 203-foot-long AquaTunnel slide, Twister Slide, a PowerDrencher tipping bucket and kid’s area.
An adult-only retreat and expanded Cloud 9 Spa are also part of the transformation.
According to Gus Antorcha, Carnival’s chief operating officer:
“These new dining spaces and features complement many of Carnival’s signature food and beverage outlets that were added during previous renovations, including Guy’s Burger Joint developed in tandem with Guy Fieri. Carnival’s investments are part of an overall plan that is raising the bar on ship amenities and features, itineraries and offshore excursions that our guests are loving.”
