Celebrity Cruises took delivery of its latest ship, the Celebrity Ascent, today at Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France ahead of its December 3 inaugural sailing.
The Celebrity Ascent is the fourth in the cruise line’s Edge Series. Its first sailing will be a 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailing visiting St. Maarten, St. Thomas and other islands.
The delivery ceremony includes several centuries-old traditions such as a signing ceremony, changing of the flags onboard and more. One thousand four hundred crew members joined key leaders from Royal Caribbean Group, Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Celebrity Cruises, including brother captains Dimitrios Kafetzis and Tasos Kafetzis.

Celebrity Ascent offers the Edge Series staples such as The Retreat, a resort-within-a-resort concept; an expanded Rooftop Garden and Resort Deck; a multi-level Sunset Bar; expanded onboard entertainment; a new outdoor dining terrace, Blu; a redesigned dining concept, Le Voyage by Chef Daniel Boulud; and the Magic Carpet.
The ship will first sail itineraries in the Eastern and Western Caribbean through late April before heading to the Mediterranean for sailings departing from Barcelona and Rome.
