Child Dies After Falling Off Cruise Ship Balcony

A 12-year-old boy was killed when he fell from a balcony aboard Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas last week.

The ship was returning to Galveston, Texas following a week-long cruise when the incident occurred on September 7.

"We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our guests," a Royal Caribbean spokesperson told People. "Our Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time."

"For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share," the spokesperson added.

According to People, the child fell from an interior-facing balcony in the ship's Central Park area, which is located on deck 8 and features numerous bars, restaurants and shops.

The tragedy comes five years after a 16-year-old fell to his death from a balcony aboard Harmony of the Seas after attempting to climb into his room because he forgot his key.
