Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) has a new flagship. The 46,052-ton, 1,250-passenger Magellan will join the CMV fleet in March.
The ship was built in 1985 as the Holiday for Carnival Cruise Lines and most recently was known as Grand Holiday in the Costa Cruises fleet.
It will operate as an adult-only ship for those aged 16 and above. The CMV fleet includes other classic ships, including the 800-passenger Marco Polo, the 600-guest Astor and the 550-passenger Azores.
"We are delighted to have secured this excellent addition to our fleet which we believe will be very well suited to our U.S. and Canadian guests sailing from the U.K. throughout Northern Europe," said John Dennis, vice president of sales and marketing for CMV USA.
"The introduction of Magellan will increase capacity by 40 percent, increasing carryings up to 74,000 passengers. Having already sold 65 percent of capacity for next year, we remain confident that Magellan will help satisfy the growing demand for our product."
Christian Verhounig, CEO and Chairman of CMV added that the addition to its ocean fleet helps in the expansion and strategic development of the company's presence in the U.K. and other markets internationally. Overall capacity is now 115,000 passengers.
Introductory fares offer savings of up to 50 percent plus a 25 percent single supplement. The maiden voyage for CMV will be a 12-night "Solar Eclipse and Northern Lights" cruise from London (Tilbury) to Iceland and the Faroes departing on March 15. The ship also will sail from Newcastle upon Tyne.
