Bad weather during a Royal Caribbean cruise left passengers and cabins in disarray. The incident happened aboard the Explorer of the Seas Thursday night near Spain. The ship was sailing from Barcelona to Miami. It even had to make an unplanned stop to disembark some passengers who needed medical attention. The cruise line did not elaborate on the injuries. There was damage to the vessel, but it was able to continue.
The ship was near Tenerife when it was hit by an "unexpected wind,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement. Several passengers documented the mess caused by the bad weather in photos and video."Everybody kind of walked around a little bit, just gawking at all the bottles from the bar that had fallen," a passenger said. "All the merchandise that you could purchase in the Royal Promenade was just all spread out throughout the floor." The passenger relayed that the ship's captain said that winds had gone from 46 miles per hour to 86 miles per hour. "I think there was about five minutes in there where everybody was wondering what was going on, but as soon as the captain came on and made the announcement of what had happened, (it) kind of gave you a sense of calmness," he said. The ship made a stop in Las Palmas, Spain, for a medical disembarkation.
