Cunard's flagship Queen Mary 2 will undergo an extensive refurbishment next year, and solo travelers and doggies will get new digs.
In a dry-dock project May 27-June 21 at the Blohm+Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, the ship will get 15 single-occupancy staterooms and 10 more dog kennels.
What's more, traveling canines will get an upgraded relaxation area with a lamp post and a fire hydrant installed on the deck area reserved for dog walking. The company's former flagship, the Queen Elizabeth 2, had a fake fire hydrant, an idea first introduced on the Queen Mary at the suggestion of The Duke of Windsor.
The QM2 is the only cruise liner to offer dedicated kennels and currently carries up to 12 dogs and cats on each trans-Atlantic crossing. These kennels frequently sell out, so more are being added.
The ship also will get 30 more Britannia Club Balcony Staterooms, which allow guests to dine at a time of their own choosing in the dedicated Britannia Club restaurant, which will be expanded.
More improvements to the liner will be revealed in coming months.

The additional accommodations went on sale on July 15 for Queen Mary 2 summer sailings starting in late June 2016.
