Malik Milfeldt of the Greenland Tourism and Business Council has arrived in New York to discuss Greenland as an increasingly popular cruising destination. Milfeldt will also visit other areas of the U.S., working to amplify Greenland's presence throughout the cruise industry, through May 31. Cruise ship tourism has been a vital part of the Greenlandic economy: Since 2001, the number of cruise passengers traveling to the Arctic country has quadrupled to nearly 30,000. Among Milfeldt's initiatives will be establishing a broader network of cruise industry contacts, as well as disseminating the brand work of the North Atlantic cruise partners. He will also deliver presentations to various cruise companies and industry organizations outlining Greenland's growing role in cruising.
Greenland, the largest island in the world, is situated in the Arctic Circle off the northeastern coast of Canada between the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. The destination is culturally Inuit with warm Greenlandic traditions and heavy influences of Scandinavian customs. Home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ilulissat Icefjord, Greenland is one of the most preserved destinations in the world with unspoiled landscape, which can be seen for 24 hours during the summer months under the Arctic sun. Easily accessible through Iceland or Denmark, this destination is ideal for adventurous travelers. For more information, email [email protected] or visit www.greenland.com or www.greenlandexpo.com.
