Mickey and Minnie Mouse will have a new look when they visit Disney Cruise Line’s newest island destination, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
The iconic characters will be sporting new outfits designed by Bahamian fashion designer Theodore Elyett. Their new clothes are inspired by Junkanoo, the country’s colorful annual festival that takes place around the holidays.
The cruise line offered a sneak peek at Elyett's designs in a new video.
Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point is located on the island of Eleuthera. It’s slated to open in June and, when it does, Mickey and Minnie will be flaunting their new apparel.
“The beauty of Mickey and Minnie’s looks are that they are literally ‘Junkanoo Fun in the Sun,’” says Elyett. “When you talk about the print, pattern, color, texture of Junkanoo, they’ve got that.”
Elyett, who grew up in Nassau, has designed clothing for celebrities, brides, government officials and Miss Universe contestants. Now, he can add cartoon characters to his resume. He will also be designing new looks for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip and Dale.
Travelers hoping to visit Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point can choose from a variety of sailings departing later this year and in 2025.
