Guests sailing aboard the new ship Carnival Jubilee can enjoy a new underwater-themed zone called “Currents” that features immersive, technologically enhanced experiences.
The vessel debuted in December from Galveston, Texas, but the cruise line is hosting the ship’s official naming ceremony on Saturday. Ahead of the event, Carnival shared a new video tour of the new “Currents” zone on the ship, which spans two decks.
Highlights include “Seaquest: A Fun Sub Adventure,” which gives guests the feeling that they’re traveling through the water on a submersible. To create the effect, the experience incorporates six large LED portals, a 100-foot-long LED ceiling, music, lighting and sound effects built into the area’s promenade.

“Seaquest is a truly first-of-its-kind experience that brings together the real and fantastical to create an exciting onboard excursion,” says Glenn Aprile, Carnival’s senior director of brand experience and product development. “As they adventure through the world created for Seaquest, guests will see the Carnival Seacation resort, explore a neon glowing grotto, encounter a giant jellyfish school, navigate among cosmic whale sharks and journey to the kingdom of The Golden Mermaid, which helps tell the story behind one of the unique new venues created for Carnival Jubilee.”
The “Currents” zone also features other activations. Travelers can toggle between six different underwater worlds, from colorful coral reefs to arctic waters brimming with penguins.
“Each environment changes the entire ambiance of the zone, including the colors guests see and the sounds they’ll hear—all inspired by nature,” according to Carnival.
Kids can also design their own whimsical sea creature and watch it swim by on the screens. There’s also a music-activated visualizer that brings guest-selected songs to life. The zone will also show the real-time locations of all of Carnival’s ships, plus other fun facts about the ocean and geography.
At night, guests having a drink at Dr.Inks, Ph.D or dining at Emeril’s Bistro 717 can watch different themes play out on the screens during each night of their sailing.
