With New York-area schools closed in honor of Presidents' Week, Feb. 16 to 20, Statue Cruises is promoting its day cruises as an educational opportunity for families. A full day of activities, including three ferry rides and two National Park sites, costs $34 for a family of four. The cruises depart from Battery Park and Liberty State Park. Battery Park, at the southern end of Manhattan, is accessible by subway, bus and the Staten Island Ferry. Liberty State Park in Jersey City, N.J., is located at Exit 14B on the New Jersey Turnpike with parking. "During these tough times a journey aboard Statue Cruises to explore Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty is not only an economical value but is a trip that both parents and kids will enjoy and remember for a lifetime, for less than the price of a movie," said Terry MacRae, founder and CEO.
Reserve tickets purchased in advance for a specific date eliminate visitors' wait time before entering the required security screening. Flex tickets are for visitors who don't want to commit to a date in advance, and are good for one visit per ticket over a three-day period. Monument passes can be reserved for free when a reserve ticket is purchased. The monument pass allows access to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. The pedestal houses the Statue of Liberty Museum, which chronicles the construction and history of the statue, as well as its impact on culture and society. For an additional fee, visitors can add the audio tour of both Ellis and Liberty islands. Ticket prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for children. The audio tour, which is available on both islands, is $8. During the winter season, ferries depart seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. In the summer months, ferries run between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Snack bars on all the Statue Cruises' vessels serve food, hot and cold drinks, and souvenirs.
