It is the dream of many travelers who love cruise lines to live on one of the luxury ships, but that hasn't been a viable option for most tourists before. That is until now.
We previously brought you news that luxury cruise ship "The World" had brought veteran cruise executive Pam Conover onboard. In her new role, Conover will serve as president and CEO of a ship that claims to be the first and only residential community at sea for the 120 people who live there. The World is privately owned and is 644 feet long.
Residents who purchase an apartment on the ship are actual part owners of the vessel and can be part of the votes to determine the itineraries. As if waking up in new places every day wasn't intriguing enough for travelers, The World also features several restaurants, pools, bars and plenty of activities unique to the location of the port.
For example, residents will visit 104 ports over 77 days this year alone.
With only 165 residences on board the ship, per The World's official website, the exclusivity makes this a private retreat that will appeal to anyone looking to live in the lap of luxury. As anyone who has traveled at sea will tell you, though, the luxury doesn't come without a big price tag.
There are four types of rooms, including studios, studio apartments (one or two bedroom), two-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom apartments. The one-room studio apartments sell for over $1 million apiece and the high-end rooms can sell for $13 million.
The price is very steep, but it is worth it to many travelers who want to own a piece of a luxury cruise liner and help determine where its next journey takes the residents. If you can afford the luxury, there are few experiences like living on a cruise ship.
