Poseidon Expeditions, which will add the 114-passenger Sea Spirit to its fleet in May, has announced 2016-17 Arctic and Antarctic itineraries for the ship.
"Our second year of bringing top-quality adventure cruising to the marketplace offers some great opportunities," Poseidon President Nikolay Saveliev said. "New Arctic itineraries, attractive rates and early-booking savings make the Sea Spirit an excellent choice for those looking for great value aboard a deluxe polar expedition ship."
Poseidon will offer a wide range of Arctic cruises, beginning with programs from Iceland to West Greenland in May 2016, followed by cruises to Svalbard, Franz Josef Land - and new for summer 2016 - rarely-visited Novaya Zemlya in the Russian High Arctic.
Arctic rates for the Sea Spirit begin at $6,195 for double occupancy and $4,895 per person, triple occupancy.
The vessel then will position to South America for expedition cruises to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands during the 2016-17 austral summer season. Rates begin at $5,995 per person, triple occupancy, and $7,695 in a double-occupancy Main Deck Suite.
Those who book through September 2015 can save 10 to 15 percent on both the Arctic and Antarctic seasons.
For 2016-17, Poseidon reduced the price for single occupancy of Superior Suites to 1.7 times the double-occupancy rate, and will make more Classic or Triple Suites available, depending on demand.
Built in 1991 as the Renaissance V, the ship sailed for a decade as the Spirit of Oceanus. It underwent technical improvements for polar cruising in 2010 and has been operating for Quark Expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic as Sea Spirit the past five years.
Sea Spirit offers all-suite accommodations, a restaurant that can accommodate all passengers in one seating, a well-stocked library, multi-purpose presentation lounges for educational programming and entertainment, and ample outdoor deck space. Activities directed by a team of experienced polar guides and educators include Zodiac excursions, hiking and optional kayaking and camping. The ship's staff-to-passenger ratio is 1:10.
Poseidon Expeditions is a member of the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators and the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators. It also actively supports the efforts of Polar Bears International and the World Wildlife Fund.
