Royal Caribbean has cancelled visits to Labadee, its private island destination in Haiti, through the end of 2026.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed the decision in a statement emailed to TravelPulse. "Out of an abundance of caution,we have extended our pause to Labadee through December 2026. We have already communicated with guests directly," said the statement provided by the cruise line.
Last fall, Royal Caribbean announced plans to pause visits to the island through the end of April 2026. Today’s announcement extends that timeline significantly. The decision comes at a time when Haiti is rated a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" by the U.S.
Department of State "due to kidnapping, crime, civil
unrest, and limited health care."
Royal Caribbean ships have not visited Labadee as part of a scheduled itinerary since April 2025, according to Royal Caribbean Blog (which is not affiliated with the cruise line.) The cruise line halted visits to the island in 2024, as well.
The cruise line has previously explained that its decision to forgo visits to Labadee was based on an effort to ensure the well-being of guests and crew, according to Royal Caribbean blog. Royal Caribbean is the only cruise line that visits Haiti.
The leased land around Labadee
allows Royal Caribbean guests to enjoy a variety of activities on five
stretches of private beach nestled between the mountains and the sea.
There is also a half-mile zip line, water slides, wave runners, private
cabanas, and more. The resort area has its own private security force.
The cruise line has provide travel advisors with a list of ports the cruise line will visit instead of Labadee. The options include Nassau, Bahamas; Grand Turk, in Turks in Caicos; and Cozumel, Mexico.
