Silver Spirit Gets a Makeover
Cruise Line & Cruise Ship Silversea Cruises Jason Leppert February 22, 2018

Silversea’s luxurious Silver Spirit has made its final call.
The ship stopped at Dubai, concluding a cruise from Mumbai, before entering the Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Italy on March 5.
"Based on the wonderful feedback from guests sailing aboard our beautiful Silver Muse, we believe the comprehensive makeover we have planned for Silver Spirit will enrich the onboard experience and be equally appreciated by guests,” said Christian Sauleau, executive vice president of fleet operations for Silversea, in a press release. “They will see many of Silver Muse's innovations and elevated comforts embodied by our reimagined Silver Spirit."
The vessel will stay through May 1 for an extensive refurbishment that will include adding a prebuilt 49-foot-long midship section. The process will make it the first luxury ship to be stretched in this way. The objective is to enhance the shipboard experience and resemble the public spaces and interior design of the line’s newest Silver Muse.
Despite the ship’s overall size increase and added spaciousness, it will retain its intimate feel with an excellent crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.48.

According to guest research and preferences, extra suites and more quality dining options will come along for the ride. Meanwhile, existing accommodations and venues like the casino will be refreshed, and as a result of the lengthening, the enlarged pool deck will be redesigned. A new health and fitness center will also be featured.
Specific to restaurants, Atlantide, Indochine, Spaccanapoli and Silver Note will join Seishin, La Dame, The Grill and La Terrazza—all with updated menus.
Also entirely new to the Spirit will be the Arts Café as a multipurpose exhibition and performance venue for readers as well as tea and coffee aficionados. Dolce Vita will take its inspiration from the line’s Italian heritage for social gatherings with cocktails in hand and live piano music. Lastly, the Zagara spa will make its way over from the Silver Muse as well.

What’s more, the highest tier existing suites will get new handmade Savoir mattresses, horse hair toppers, and HD screens. Thirty-four additional suites plus the Balsorano suite will also be added. The latter will be decorated with items of personal value to Silversea chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio di Balsorano de Clunieres.
Having sailed on Silver Spirit in its previous iteration, I can say the ship was already special, particularly in its culinary options. Adding even more dining venues will only sweeten the pot further with choices that will have foodies clamoring to hop aboard when the ship returns to service May 6, 2018.
On that day, the Silver Spirit will set sail on a seven-day voyage from Civitavecchia (Rome) to Barcelona, visiting Porto-Vecchio, Corsica; Livorno; Portofino; Cannes and Marseilles in between. Rates begin at $4,900 per person, and special savings are available for reservations made prior to March 31.
