Small Fire Breaks Out on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas in Mexico

A small fire broke out Tuesday onboard the world’s largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas.

The Royal Caribbean International ship was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico, at the time of the incident, reports USA Today. The power went out briefly, but the fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported and the ship was able to continue on its itinerary as planned.

The ship departed from Miami on Saturday on a 7-day Western Caribbean cruise. On Wedneday, the ship was scheduled to call at Cozumel.

Royal Caribbean shared a statement about the incident with WSVN: 

"The ship experienced a small fire (isolated to the crew area) and experience a brief loss of power while docked at Costa Maya, Mexico; back-up power kicked in immediately and teams restored the main systems; all necessary safety procedures were taken and the team were able to quickly extinguish the fire; safety of our passengers and crew are always our top priority; thankfully there were no injuries."
