Variety Cruises has appointed Steve Reynolds as chief executive officer, with former CEO Filippos Venetopoulos moving to the role of executive chairman following the small-ship cruise company's financial restructuring.
Reynolds will oversee operations, commercial development, financial performance and employee development, while Venetopoulos will focus on long-term strategy, governance and industry relationships.
The leadership changes come as the third-generation, family-owned company looks to expand its business following the completion of a major financial restructuring.
Reynolds most recently served as senior vice president of Discover Qatar, the destination management company of Qatar Airways Group. He brings international leadership experience across travel, tourism, distribution and destination management.
“I am delighted to be joining Variety Cruises at this pivotal point in its 77-year family-owned history,” says Reynolds. “The business has a stronger foundation for growth, and the demand for intimate, destination-focused cruising creates an exciting opportunity for Variety.”
The company, founded in 1949, plans to expand its small-ship itineraries to more destinations while investing in staff development, service quality, safety and operations.
Venetopoulos said the leadership transition would allow him to concentrate on the company's long-term direction while giving Reynolds responsibility for day-to-day leadership.
“Steve’s arrival allows me to focus on that long-term vision while giving him the authority and space to lead,” says Venetopoulos.
