Viking has unveiled a new “Spirit of Mongolia” extension program for guests who sail on one of the line’s new China voyages.

Spirit of Mongolia is a five-night, fully-guided cruise extension that guests can add to the beginning or end of their voyage. It’s available on Viking’s five new China itineraries: “Best of China,” “China Discovery,” “Classic China & the Coast” and “Wonders of China.”

"We were proud to announce our new China ocean voyages recently, and we are now pleased to offer guests our first experiences in Mongolia," says Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, which recently filed for an initial public offering. "Our guests are curious travelers who are interested in experiences that broaden their minds. With its geographic diversity and incredible history, Mongolia is an extraordinary destination making it a natural extension to our new China itineraries."

The pre- or post-cruise extension starts in the city of Ulaanbaatar, where guests will link up with their Viking guide and visit sites like the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. The trip continues in Dalanzadgad, where travelers will spend three days at the Three Camel Lodge in the foothills of the Altai Mountains in the Gobi Desert near the Gurvan Saikhan National Park.

At the lodge, visitors can explore on their own, choosing to participate in activities like sunrise hikes, archery, camel safaris and cooking classes. Guests will return to Ulaanbaatar for one night before heading home or embarking on their cruise.

Spirit of Mongolia is just one of the fully guided extensions Viking is offering in China. The others, which range from three to four nights, include Beijing, Hong Kong, Hong Kong and Guilin, and Suzhou and Wuxi.

Viking’s new China voyages range from 10 to 20 days long. They’re being offered aboard Viking Yi Dun, which can accommodate up to 930 guests in 465 staterooms.
