The new Viking Vesta has officially joined Viking’s fleet of sister ocean vessels.
The company took delivery of its newest ocean ship at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The 499-stateroom ship, which can accommodate up to 998 guests, will spend her inaugural season sailing in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.
“As we continue to expand around the world, we are pleased to offer curious travelers new options for exploring in Viking comfort,” says Torstein Hagen, chairman and chief executive officer of Viking. “We look forward to welcoming guests on board the Viking Vesta during her inaugural season and in the years to come.”
Viking has many other ships in the works. The company expects to take delivery of 27 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 additional ocean ships by 2031, bringing its total fleet up to 111 river ships in 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
Viking and Fincantieri are working together to build the Viking Libra, a hydrogen-powered cruise ship that’s capable of operating with zero emissions. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in late 2026.
Viking Astrea, another new ocean ship, will also be hydrogen powered and is slated for delivery in 2027.
