Tucked away in a tiny corner of the Persian Gulf, Qatar is a small Middle Eastern country that is making a big splash as a destination.

Qatar's National Vision 2030 has shined a spotlight on tourism as an economic driver, and the country is investing heavily in creating a stellar visitor experience.

Upon arrival, travelers are welcomed by one of the world's best and most high-tech airports, which operates as a hub to many destinations around Europe, Africa and Asia. While visitors might find themselves in the nation connecting to destinations around the world, staying on to experience what Qatar has to offer promises to be a relaxing, fun-filled, high-end experience.

The petite country covers fewer than 5,000 square miles but is packed with interesting and adventurous activities.

New Amusements

The world's first Angry Birds World opened its doors in Qatar's entertainment complex, Doha Festival City, in July.

The park is full of family-friendly fun inspired by the Angry Birds digital games and movies. Try the Blast Bomb, a twisting, turning drop tower that features a fall from 36 feet. Red Alert is another attraction offering a 360-degree spin and the Big Tree an edutainment experience encompassing science, music and art.

A Rich History

Qatar's rich history can be explored at cultural attractions such as Doha's Traditional Market, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Sheikh Faisal's private museum at Al Samriya, the Al Zubarah Fort, the Al Jassasiya rock carvings and more.

Qatar is home to natural wonders as well, including Khor Al Adaid, which is known as the country's "Inland Sea," the Ras Abrouq Rock Formations, the Dahl Al Misfir Cave and the otherworldly Al Thakira Mangroves.

Luxe Life

If high-end shopping, luxury hotel stays and unique dining experiences are of interest to travelers, Qatar is home to all three.

The Pearl-Qatar has been dubbed the "Most Glamorous Address in the Middle East." The manmade island off the West Bay coast is chock full of luxury hotel brands, high-end shopping, beautiful boutiques and stunning showrooms.

The island, sometimes referred to as the "Arabian Riviera," is also a popular dining spot with waterfront cafes and five-star restaurants lining its chic promenades.

Fun for Families

Qatar is an ideal destination for multigenerational groups and families. Katara's public beach features supervised water sports facilities, and Aqua Park is filled with water rides.

Families can have a more exotic experience and learn about unique animal species such as Arabian oryxes, barbari sheep, Arabian wolves with a visit to Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve.

For a more traditional activity, malls offer indoor play areas, family-friendly food options, ice skating, bowling, movies and more.

Exciting events

Qatar is gearing up for the World Cup, and it's already started building excitement for 2022.

The Qatar Summer Festival (QSF), which runs through August 31, 2018, features a host of immersive and interactive fan zones around the country that showcase the country's passion for the sport.

The Qatar International Food Festival also draws worldwide attention. The event is organized by Visit Qatar and is an annual open-air gourmet food extravaganza with some of the best culinary options available in the country.

Festivals take place year-round in the country and celebrate a wide variety of cultural activities, including pearl diving, kites, books, films and dhow boats.
