Millions will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday in their own respective way. One outlet is choosing to offer a spotlight to volunteers around the nation, giving a free trip to one through a Facebook giveaway.
Travel website CheapTickets.com, through a press release, announced a campaign on its Facebook page that allows users to nominate friends they believe have gone above and beyond as volunteers.
As it states, "Nominate your favorite dedicated volunteer to win a service trip by visiting Facebook.com/CheapTickets and describing why they deserve the prize. If your nominee is chosen, you will also win a service trip."
The website posted the following:

Simply head to this link and nominate that special person in your life and you may just win a service trip.
The release also went to great lengths in highlighting not only the idea of a volunteer service trip but some remarkable places here at home that you might consider for your next sojourn.

Here is a list of destinations CheapTickets chose to highlight with "historic significance" you might consider this particular holiday.

Brian Wolf, general manager of CheapTickets.com, offered thoughts on service trips here nationally: "Many times when people think of service trips they picture a long and expensive trip outside of the U.S. However, there are so many opportunities to make an impact in communities within the United States, without the steep travel costs, especially on a nationally recognized day of service like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day."
And really, those with a thought to take a trip to help others might not do so because of means. The release offers some intriguing stats: "Less than a quarter of Americans have taken a volunteer service trip, but nearly 60 percent would consider taking one and cite time and money as the two biggest prohibitors."

The above come with their own particular opportunities to help. For example, the National Civil Rights Museum will celebrate Dr. King by preparing to "host volunteers for beautification projects in communities across the city."
If you miss out on the chance, there are plenty of ways to get out and serve various communities throughout the year.
Some tips offered by CheapTickets is to think of those cities nearby rather than plunking down money on an International flight.
Or, as it offers, you can fit in some work during a trip you are already taking.
In any case, there are plenty of opportunities this coming holiday to serve or to merely highlight those who work so tirelessly.
