China now has a fully operational glass bridge, CNN reports, ready to offer passage filled with unforgettable thrills.
The report states, "The recently completed span is a glass walkway suspended a stomach-flipping 180 meters (590 feet) above a sheer drop in China's central Hunan Province."
Called "Haohan Qiao," which means "Brave Men's Bridge," this name should give you a bit of insight into what it takes to traverse the remodeled installation.
This was previously a wood bridge, CNN said, which we have to think was just as scary an enterprise - the last thing you want when walking 600 feet in the air is the creaking and cracking of wood under your feet.
In any case, China decided to get with the rest of the world and bring a bit of transparency to its landmarks.
As we previously reported, a bridge in Pingjiang had just a portion of its expanse outfitted with glass in 2014.
A Metro story about the same bridge offered a harrowing anecdote from a tourist who walked the span before it was fully retooled with glass: "I was fine at first but by the time I was a third of the way across I was just weak at the knees. I had to go back when it started to move and needed a lot of coaxing from my boyfriend. I thought I was going just melt on the spot. My legs wouldn't work."
TravelPulse's Patrick Clarke reported back in May that there would soon be a bigger, badder bridge to command your attention in China.
The bridge at Zhangjiajie is set to open, according to CNN, a bit later this year. When completed, the publication states that it will be the world's highest and longest bridge utilizing glass as its surface.
For now, the truly remarkable Haohan Qiao will enjoy the spotlight a bit longer.
