Complete with wind, mist and scents, flight simulation ride FlyOver America is coming to Minnesota's Mall of America in 2016.
According to a press release published on Thursday, the attraction, which is reminiscent of Disney's "Soarin'" ride, is set to open in spring 2016.
Using virtual flight technology, the ride takes guests on an aerial tour of famous landmarks and regions across the country. Mall of America spokeswoman Sarah Schmidt told Tom Webb of TwinCities.com that crews are also filming scenes in Minnesota.
The "immersive experience" is considered suitable for guests ages four and older.
"The addition of FlyOver America will offer guests a one-of-a-kind experience while adding to the many lifelong memories we are committed to helping our guests create during each visit to Mall of America," said Mall of America senior vice president Jill Renslow in a statement. "The innovative technology and talent behind the attraction reinforces Mall of America as a must-visit tourist destination."
Once guests are strapped into the ride, they are suspended 10 to 25 feet in the air in front of a dome screen that projects the sights of the destination.
For guests at FlyOver Canada in Vancouver, the ride is likely to provide a similar experience.
"Building on our success in Canada, we looked at many sites around the world before choosing Mall of America and the state of Minnesota for our U.S. expansion," said Andrew Strang, FlyOver co-founder in a statement. "We couldn't imagine a better home for our first FlyOver America and are honored to launch at this world-renowned location. The appeal of feeling like you're truly soaring over stunning landscapes in a fun environment is universal."
According to Webb, construction on the new attraction will begin on April 20 and cost roughly $23 million.
The ride will be located within the Nickelodeon Universe theme park, however, admission will be separate from the park.
