Visitors will have the chance to go nose-to-nose with the legendary King Kong when the Skull Island: Reign of Kong attraction makes its debut at Universal Orlando Resort's Islands of Adventure in the summer of 2016.
"King Kong is a Hollywood movie legend and a huge part of both our history and our future," said Mike West, executive producer at Universal Creative. "He gives us the opportunity to tap into everything that makes our film history so special and everything that makes our theme park attractions so spectacular. We can't wait to bring him to life in such an epic way."
In an effort to ensure that the attraction provides visitors with a highly immersive experience, Universal Creative is collaborating with Peter Jackson, who directed King Kong, the blockbuster remake of the 1933 film of the same name.
In a YouTube video teasing the new attraction, West set the stage for what visitors can expect. "We have massive sets, massive ride vehicles, massive characters and creatures and massive stories," he said. "The entire experience is really going to be larger than life."
Visitors board what West referred to as "revolutionary ride vehicles" to begin their expeditions through ancient temples, forbidding jungles and mysterious underworld caves. "But it quickly turns into a fight for survival as you encounter creatures of unknown origin and even the great Kong himself," he said.
For now, that's about all Universal is disclosing about the attraction. It promises, however, to provide more details in the coming months. Stay tuned.
