The LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games are projected to generate up to $40 billion in economic impact and support around 126,000 to 224,000 jobs across Greater Los Angeles, according to a new study conducted by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) and LA28.
The study provides a multi-year analysis of the games leading up to and including 2028.
The next Olympic Games could generate between $20.5 billion to $40.6 billion across the Greater Los Angeles region, which spans five counties.
Capital investment would be huge: an expected $8.35 billion in investment will improve accessibility, update venues, improve mobility and prepare transportation and airports for the global sporting event. LA28 is using a no-build approach for Olympic venues.
The LA28 Olympic Games are projected to draw around two million visitors to the region, all generating between $1.6 billion to $4.3 billion in direct visitor spending in Los Angeles County alone.
“The scale and breadth of the economic activity associated with the 2028 Games is significant, even when viewed through a conservative lens,” said Stephen Cheung, President & CEO of LAEDC. “Our analysis shows the impact reaching across the regional economy, from jobs and labor income to local businesses, visitor spending, and long-term investment. Importantly, these findings reflect a range of potential outcomes, providing a transparent picture of the economic benefits the Games could generate for Greater Los Angeles.”
Combined federal, state and local tax revenue is expected to be between $5.1 billion and $5.9 billion.
Even though LA28 is still two years away, planning for it is in full swing: On Location, the official hospitality provider for the global event, already launched ticket-inclusive hotel packages for those wanting to snag their seats at key events as early as possible.
